Ask God the Hard Questions

When it feels as though the bottom has fallen out of our lives and things are so bad that we don’t know where to turn, we often ask “why?!!!”. This is a very logical and human thing to do. We are wired this way. When things are going well for us, we’re not as concerned about the ‘why’. This is because most of us have a pretty positive opinion of how life is supposed to go. We generally believe that we should feel comfortable and content with things. In other words, when things are going right, life FEELS right. Most of us agree that life should make sense, and when it does, it is as it should be. It’s only when things go wrong that we begin to question God. We know that He is all-powerful, and we want His beam of blessings always shining our way.

God tells us in James 1:5 that if we lack wisdom, we should ask Him, and He won’t be the least bit upset if we do. We need to ask God the hard questions about our lives so He can teach us lessons that will help us be exponentially better than we ever imagined. He wants to answer our questions so that we will be knowledgeable about Him and His Word. God doesn’t change, and His Word never changes. He is faithful to the promises that He’s made to us. The truth and power of His Word is timeless, and we can count on it with every fiber of our being.

Jesus Christ said in John 8:32 that God’s truth will make us free. Knowing it will cause us to be released from any bondage. So, we can be sure that when it seems the blessed state of our lives has taken a left turn, the best course of action is indeed to ask Heavenly Father why. Then, we must be patient and attentive as He tells us exactly what He desires us to hear and know.

God never changes, but we do. Biblical history shows us many records of people who enjoyed God’s bounty, but then became nonchalant, arrogant, and lazy when it came to their relationship with Him. They stopped coming to Him with a heart of humility and thanksgiving, but instead came to Him only because of what He could give them. Their attitude towards God changed, and this is something that caused a rift in their relationship with Heavenly Father. We must be ever so careful not to allow this to happen to us.

God demands that we have an attitude of faith, and Galatians 5:6 affirms that what’s important to Him is that this faith gets expressed through love. Furthermore, Jesus Christ commands us in Mark 12:30(NLT), “And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.” The way that you and I demonstrate our love for God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength is to have unwavering faith that what He has promised, He is also fully willing and able to perform.

John 3:16(NLT) tells us, “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” Heavenly Father wants a relationship with each of us, and He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, as a sacrifice for our sins. He did this because of His great love, and because He wants us to live an eternity with Him. When we accept Jesus Christ as our precious Lord and Savior, his Spirit comes to live inside us and we become united with Christ. We must then learn to be like him. Colossians 2:6(NLT) tells us, “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him.”

Life doesn’t make sense when it is lived outside the boundaries of Christ, because Jesus Christ is life himself. He said in John 14:6(NLT), I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” Sometimes we find ourselves on the complete opposite side of where God wants us to be. It is a scary place, because being spiritually out of place means being out of purpose. This equates to not feeling fulfilled and dissatisfied. It’s not what we want. The solution can be found when we turn to God in prayer and make a greater commitment to grow close to Him. Romans 8:28 tells us that God causes everything to work together for good when we step in harmony and unity with His Plan for our lives. So, if life is coming at you with one problem after another, don’t lose heart. Seek God for greater understanding, and He will help restore your life to peace and teach you how to keep it that way.
