The Realm of His Glorious Light
“There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?” John 14:2(NLT)
By Alexandra Copeland
There’s a statistic out there
suggesting that the popularity of the occult is on the rise.
This is indeed a shame. The gifts of our Heavenly Father are
so generous and awesome. I asked myself why anyone would
choose the realm of darkness. It’s evil, a counterfeit, and
it can’t compare to the realm of glorious light that our
Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, has made available to us. As
I thought about this more, I became embarrassed that I even
asked myself the question. I’ve been on this Christian
journey for many years, and wouldn’t trade it for anything.
The splendor of having intimacy in our relationship with God
is beyond words. I know this from personal experience, and I
also know how vehemently the enemy will oppose us when we
seek to deepen our relationship with God.
The devil has bamboozled the
minds of many people. God tells us through the Apostle Paul
in 2Corinthians 4:4, “Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who
don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of
the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the
glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.” The
devil, satan, is the god of this world, and his rulership is
one of darkness, chaos, confusion, and death. Deception is
the name of his game, and he deceives people by using tricks
and manipulation to keep them from recognizing the truth.
People today are dealing with
situations that are very complex and challenging. They don’t
like feeling helpless, none of us do, but they don’t know
where to turn. Many of them turn to satan and become
children of darkness by handing over their lives to him.
They want power, and they are willing to embrace anything
that looks as though it might make them more than what they
think they are. This is a very dangerous game they are
playing, and it is sad to say that many of God’s children
have also fallen for these tricks.
2 Corinthians 5:19-20 (NLT) tells
us, “19 For God was in
Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting
people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful
message of reconciliation. 20 So we are Christ’s
ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak
for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!”” As
children of the light and ambassadors for Christ, we should
be ushering people into the light of Christ by the droves,
but we don’t see this happening nearly as much as we should.
Others should be able to smell
the sweet aroma of God’s love from those of us that have
been born again. Our excitement for His Kingdom should be
palpable, but our doubt and lack of zeal has all but
cancelled out our spiritual scent. Many of us are not
excited, and it is partly because we’ve stalled out. At one
time, we were very hopeful. We thought we were going to be
supernatural dynamos, but somewhere along the way we stopped
believing, and forgot how to walk by faith. Some of us
refused to allow the indwelling Holy Spirit to lead, guide,
and direct us; and because we didn’t, we were not able to
tap into his power, nor have we been able to help anyone
else to walk in God’s power.
The miraculous does indeed
happen. Extraordinary signs and wonders in the powerful name
of Jesus Christ occur all the time, and people are being
healed in phenomenal ways. But more important than these is
the everlasting glory from God’s throne that falls upon
believers that dare to trust they can actually bask in it.
It’s a glory so permeating, thick, and filled with ooey,
gooey goodness, that a person can hardly stand up in the
midst of it. And the peace…truly it passes all
understanding. This, and so much more, is available to us by
faith, if only we would believe and trust the Lord.
Jesus Christ told us in John 4:24
(NLT), “For God is
Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and
in truth.” There is more happening in the spiritual
realm than there is in this earthly realm. The earth is but
a tiny dot in the scope of all that God has created. We
cannot see all the activity going on, but through His Word
we have evidence that much is taking place. Jesus Christ
gives us a sneak peak of this in John 14:2 (NLT). He said,
“There is more than
enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would
I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?”
It is almost impossible to
imagine a home large and grand enough for the expanse of
God. He is awesome beyond words, and He is everywhere
present. The earth is only His footstool, so just think what
His entire house must be. Jesus Christ assures us in John
14:2 that each of us has a place in God’s home. This is too
magnificent to ponder.
The things that are unseen are
more real than those that can be seen with physical
eyesight; the invisible more real than the visible, and the
spiritual is more real than the physical. As citizens of
earth who have embraced the tangible wholeheartedly, we lose
sight of this; but lest we forget, this earth is not our
home, we’re just passing through. We can’t see heaven in the
same way that we see the things in the earth, but we know
that heaven is real, for we trust it by faith. In this same
way, we need to begin to ignite our faith and excitement for
the work of Christ, as his ambassadors.
If we don’t begin to catch the
fire of the Holy Spirit within us and take it by faith,
we’re going to lose out on the many opportunities to bear
witness of the realm of God’s glorious light. There’s
something distinctly different about a person that knows who
they are in Christ, and others will sniff it out because
it’s an aroma of real and true power…the power that only God
can give. Through Christ, we have it, and we ought not to be
afraid or ashamed to use or show it! ■
