Being A Believer in the Lord Jesus Christ

Either a person believes that faith in God through the Lord Jesus Christ is the basis for life and everything that exists, or they don’t. A believer is someone that believes in God through the life, ministry, sacrifice and resurrection of Christ, and an unbeliever is someone that doesn’t. 1John 4:12(ESV) tells us, “No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.” God is invisible to human eyes. He tells us in 2Corinthians 5:7 that we must walk by faith and not by sight, therefore, to believe in God requires that we must believe in what our physical eyes cannot see.

We do this all the time when it comes to living our everyday life. We have complete and total trust in the things we cannot see. We will work the next two weeks and trust the companies we work for to pay us after we’ve performed the work. We trust when physicians tell us what’s wrong with our physical bodies, when they can’t see inside us. We trust a person’s love for us, even though we can’t visually see love, and we trust that the people that care about us will support us when we need it most. Some of us are incredibly trusting when it comes to these things, but when it comes to God and His glorious magnificence, most will not go there.

Unbelievers are individuals that do not believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God; many of them do not even believe there is a One True God. They don’t believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross, shed his blood for the remission of our sins, and was resurrected from the dead by the Holy Spirit. These individuals are not interested in being a child of God by becoming born-again through Jesus Christ, as it says in Romans 10:9-10. They often think of those of us who love God through Jesus Christ with all that we are as being weak, unintelligent, and unable to cope with life in a mature way. This is not the truth, but it is the way in which the world operates.

Some people will come and leave this earth without ever believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, but if God has written their names in His Book of Life, their lives will be transformed at some point. For some of these individuals, it will take an event that shakes their world to its core. It is sad, but sometimes it takes a catastrophic occurrence to cause certain folks to wake up. It takes their backs being firmly held against the wall with no safety net, no support, and no way out accept prayer to God. At this juncture, they are usually desperate when they ask for His help, and many of them will make all kinds of promises if He will rescue them and get them out of their conditions or circumstances.

Of course, it is best not to wait until the devil has bamboozled and dragged us through the mud to this degree. The better way is to learn to walk by God’s Spirit and to begin the glorious journey of walking with Him every moment of each day through His Son, Jesus Christ. The psalmist, King David, prayed in Psalm 25:5(ESV), “Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.” God created human beings in His image. He created us to be His children and to live through His love. This requires that we lean on God totally and completely, because God is the Source of life and all that we survey. He is the Leader, and we are followers. Our God leads us through His truth, because He is the truth. God is reality and believing in Him through Jesus Christ is living the reality of the identity He has given us.

God is the Creator of life. He set its boundaries, and only He could do this. John 3:16(ESV) declares,For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” Our God sent Jesus Christ on a mission in the earth. In John 10:10(ESV), Jesus Christ tells us why he came here. He said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” He came so that we could not just have a life but have a more than abundant life, filled to overflowing with the blessings of our God.

A believer in the Lord Jesus Christ is extremely interested in living a more than abundant life. What is it? It’s life in the Spirit! It’s living through God’s love with a full understanding that we are in Him and He is in us through Jesus Christ. 1John 5:20(NIV) declares, We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.”  Believers are absolutely ecstatic about eternal life, because we are absolutely ecstatic about God and the gift that He’s given us to live with Him without end!
