God is Not Through With You Yet

Just about every person that has any interest at all in their spiritual identity knows a little something about Adam and Eve. They know that Adam was the first man and Eve was the first woman. They were the first married couple, and God’s purpose was that the two of them would function as one in the spirit of unity. Before Adam and Eve came on the scene, Heavenly Father had a conversation with His Son, Jesus Christ, and with the Holy Spirit. Genesis 1:26(NLT) tells us that He said, Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.” The heavens are filled with divine beings, but God wanted more. His love cannot remain stagnant. It must expand. You and I, and every human being, is a part of that expansion.

Our Heavenly Father wanted a family. This should come as no surprise to any of us. As His creations, we are fueled, propelled, and motivated by connections to others. From the moment we’re born we have these connections. Whether our parents are good, bad, or indifferent, they are our mothers and fathers, and nothing they can ever do will change the reality of this truth. Biologically, we are eternally connected to those who helped put out the welcome mat to our earth experience. No matter where we go or what we do, we will always be affected by those ties. God set this up to help us understand His desire for relationship with us.

Good parents are a blessing, but not all of them are good. Some are not able to give us what we need. Many humans walking the earth today are not the people they could have been because their parents failed, neglected, or refused to nurture them in a loving and supportive way. Whether we received good or poor parenting, most of us understand the importance of having quality connections, and how meaningful they are to our development and fulfillment if we have them from the very beginning.

Well, as wonderful and influential as our parents may be, they cannot come close to the parenting of our Heavenly Father. As adults, we sometimes forget that we are still only children. We are our Heavenly Father’s children, and He is teaching us through His Spirit to grow and measure up to the full stature of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Ephesians 4:11-12 tells us that God has given us spiritual teachers, mentors, and leaders to equip us. Ephesians 4:13(NLT) says about this equipping, “This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.”

Everything that God intended human beings to be is contained within the person of Jesus Christ, and His goal is that we become the very image of Christ. This is our destination. This is where we’re headed. We’re being transformed into Christ as we renew our minds to God’s Word and change our attitudes and behavior to mirror those of our precious Lord and Savior. We are made in God’s image, and because of this, everything that we need in order to be all that He desires us to be, we already have. God has taken care of this completely through Jesus Christ. Ephesians 1:3(NLT) says, “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.”

Adam and Eve made a colossal mistake, but this was not news to Heavenly Father. He knew they would have a tragic fall because of their sin, and He knew that we would sin as well. We make mistakes, and some of them are colossal, but through our mistakes and humility to seek His forgiveness, He shows us a side of His love. This allows us to see how much we mean to Him. God does not make mistakes. He is a happy and perfect God. Nothing that God has given us is inferior. He gave us His perfect and only begotten Son, Jesus Christ as a sacrifice. The blood of the lamb washed away our sins, and we are redeemed! Thousands of years ago, when God looked at Adam and Eve, and the mess they’d made, He saw that through them, you and I would exist.

Philippians 1:6(NLT) says, “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” God is not through with you yet. Like all of us, you are a work in progress, and Heavenly Father isn’t the least bit mad about it. His grace is sufficient to us. Our responsibility is to keep our eyes focused on the example of Christ, and to remember that our whole purpose for existing is to enjoy our relationship with God.

Heavenly Father never intended our lives to be stagnant and stale, but lively and full of hope through Jesus Christ. God created us to be His children. If we will commit ourselves to Him with our whole hearts, He will be a loving and supportive father and help us through the problems of life. He’ll continually help us grow in Christ so that we become the men and women He has called us to be. Don’t get stuck on focusing on past hurts and the wrong things that people have done to you. Ask the Lord Jesus Christ to help you forgive and let go of all negativity so you can get on with the business of transformation and enjoy the wonderful blessings God has in store for your life. ■
