Holy Spirit Warnings that Keep You Safe

By Alexandra Copeland

There exists in Christendom a segment of individuals that identify as Christians, consider themselves members of Christian intelligentsia, and do not believe in the devil or the demonic. They frown upon pastors, preachers, and teachers that are without educational credentials from prominent theological institutions, and many of them believe that those of us that are born-again are ignorant, low-level thinkers. Through their own arrogance, they are blinded by the devil, and cannot discern wonders of the Holy Spirit from deeds of darkness. Every religion within Christianity has their share of this type of individual, some way more than others. They attach themselves to what they perceive as the more civilized sect, and have no clue about the supernatural workings of Heavenly Father. That’s why for them, many of His warnings and signs through the power of the Holy Spirit go unnoticed.

There are probably as many Christians who do not believe in being supernaturally led by the Holy Spirit as there are those of us who do. It is an enigma that someone would read God’s Living Word, claim to believe it, and then disassociate themselves with the greatest gift that anyone can receive through Jesus Christ, which is the powerful indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ told us in John 16:13 that the Holy Spirit guides us into all truth. We cannot be guided into all truth without him. The truth makes us free. It brings life to our mortal bodies. Romans 8:11(NLT) tells us, “The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.” God has plans for us, the same plans that He had for the Children of Israel when He told them in Jeremiah 29:11(NLT), “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” God’s plans for us includes keeping us alive and thriving. It includes His continual protection for our lives and the lives of those that we love.

Psalm 121:7-8 (NLT) tells us, “7 The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. 8 The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.” Heavenly Father doesn’t miss a beat. He knows everything there is to know about us, and there isn’t one detail of our lives that slips by His attention. He desires to keep us safe, and that’s one of the reasons that He constantly and continually communicates with us. He does this through the Holy Spirit that indwells us.

Act 2:38(NLT) says, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Heavenly Father never wanted us to be spiritual weaklings that fall prey to the devil’s trick and plots against us. He will equip us through the Spirit with all the spiritual armor we need. This is why He commands us to repent of our sins and to be immersed and baptized in the Holy Spirit. In Galatians 5:16, He tells us to walk by the Holy Spirit and to let the Spirit guide our lives.

The Lord Jesus Christ also tells us in John 16:13b-14(NLT), that the Spirit “will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. 14 He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me.” This is one of the indwelling Holy Spirit’s occupations. He leads, guides, and directs us into the truth. He also tells us about the future. He tells us whatever he receives from Jesus Christ. He’ll warn us of impending danger. These warnings can be released internally through prophecy, dreams, and visions; for God tells us in Acts 2:17(NLT), “‘In the last days,’ God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams. 18 In those days I will pour out my Spirit even on my servants—men and women alike—and they will prophesy."

No one can keep us and our families safe better than the Lord Jesus Christ. We have the great privilege and honor to be directed by him through the Spirit that abides in us internally. In 2Corinthians 12:9, the Apostle Paul said, “So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.” This should be our continual prayer, that we decrease and allow the Spirit to increase. This requires our daily surrender and faith that as we submit ourselves to Heavenly Father, He will work through our dreams, give us visions, and speak to us through the indwelling Holy Spirit to keep us safe. We must not be like those who fear, reject, or ignore his power; but we must humbly quiet ourselves to hear the Spirit's voice, and then heed His warnings.
