You Are God’s Choice Pearl

By Alexandra Copeland

John 21:25 (NLT) tells us, "Jesus also did many other things. If they were all written down, I suppose the whole world could not contain the books that would be written."  Every single thing that Jesus Christ did is worthy of our attention. It is the truth of God’s Word, and the indwelling Holy Spirit bears testimony of this truth each time that we hear it. Through the gospels, there is enough written about Christ that if we were able to digest it all, we would know him with such intimacy. This confirms that he performed miracles, raised the dead, healed the sick, restored sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, and taught the truth concerning God’s Word. He was excellent in every way, yet with all that is recorded for our living and learning, there is much more. So much more in truth, that the world could not grant enough space to hold written volumes of his works.

His life was so rich and complete, and through the overwhelming goodness of our Heavenly Father, the gospels give us a fulfilling and powerful record that will help us to know Jesus and his unyielding love. Many that don’t know the Word of God very well might think that the life of Jesus Christ began when he was born to Mary. John 1:3(NLT) tells us, “In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He existed in the beginning with God. 3 God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him.” These verses point to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. They tell us that he existed in the very beginning with God, and that God created everything through him. This is a very important truth to comprehend.

One of the truths that must be cemented in our hearts and minds is the scale and magnitude of who Christ is. Until we enlarge our minds to comprehend who he is, we will never fully understand who we are, what we can be through Christ, and what we mean to Heavenly Father. Isaiah 9:6 (NLT) says, “For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” The earth was overwhelmingly blessed to receive God’s only begotten son, and as we can see from Isaiah 9:6, Jesus Christ has many names. Others mentioned throughout the bible are Master, Teacher, Son of God, Son of Man, Son of David, and Emanuel, just to name a few.

Jesus Christ is Lord, and he left the throne of God to come to earth in human form to show us the way. John 3:16-17(NLT) tells us, “16 For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.” Heavenly Father knew that Adam and Eve would disobey Him and lose their holiness. He knew that they would fall and doom humanity to a terrible fate of separation from God, and that why He had a plan of redemption all along. Hebrews 9:12 (NLT) says of Jesus Christ, “With his own blood—not the blood of goats and calves—he entered the Most Holy Place once for all time and secured our redemption forever.”

None of us, not even if we lived three million lifetimes, could know the depth of what God paid as a ransom for our sins when He spared not His only son. Because of him, we will never see the utter despair, darkness, and doom of hell. We will never know what true and everlasting pain is. We will never know all the things that were reversed, eradicated, demolished, and set free as a result of his ministry, life, sacrifice, and resurrection. He has no beginning and no end; and he redeemed us for the rest of eternity. There is nothing comparable to a treasure of this magnitude, and it will take us an eternity to thank God in even the smallest way for what He has done for us through Christ.

But we cannot talk about what God has done through Christ without also talking about why He did it. He did it for us! That’s mind-blowing! We have to ask ourselves the question, “What determines the price of something?” The answer to this question is that the price or worth of anything is determined by the price one is willing to pay for it. We are the apple of our Father’s eyes. Heavenly Father has demonstrated His overwhelming love for us through Christ. He wanted us to know what He thinks about us and paid the highest price imaginable. By this, God, the Creator of the universe, has established our worth.

God loves you so much, that even despite the evil and disobedience that exists in this world, He has endured it all so that you would come into relationship with Him. His love for us is like the man in the parable of Matthew 13:45-46 (NLT). Jesus said, “45 Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant on the lookout for choice pearls. 46 When he discovered a pearl of great value, he sold everything he owned and bought it!” You are God’s choice pearl. It is such an intimate relationship that He desires with you, so that you will know how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is, as it says in Ephesians 3:18.

It’s about relationship—an individual relationship with Him. Too many of us are consumed with our problems. We’re focused on what we don’t have. We want a spouse, more money, better relationships, better job, bigger house. If we’d spend more time focusing on God and our relationship with Him, we’d have those things and more. In Matthew 6:33, Jesus Christ declared it when told us, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” God doesn’t only love us when we perform well and do all the right things. He loves us no matter what. He wants the best for us, and if we’ll let Him into our hearts fully, and commit ourselves to learn and be led by Him, we’ll have no doubt of His amazing love.■
